It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Apna Punjab Hove is the ultimate anthem of Punjab and Punjabis placed globally. Indeed this song was the ultimate milestone of legend Gurdas Maan’s career which made him the icon of Punjab.
Akin to its lyrics, music, and vocals, the story of this song is also damn awesome. The journey of this song can be best expressed by a famous expression which says “No trumpets sound when the important decisions of our lives are made. Destiny is made known silently.”
Therefore we never knew what’s coming for us and like everyone even Makhan Brar Sahab didn’t know what he was writing while he was weaving this beautiful composition.
The journey of this song started when a friend of Makhan Brar came to meet him in Canada. By the time his friend arrived at his place, he was leaving for his workplace. Therefore, he asked his friend to accompany him to his workplace so that they can have a few words of solace.
Upon reaching there, Makhan Brar started working and simultaneously, he started talking to his friend. At one point when their conversation touched upon the topic of Punjab, Makhan Brar suddenly spoke up “Ghar Di Sharab Hove.”
His friend immediately repeated after him “Apna Punjab Hove.” His rhyming immediately evoked an idea of a song in Brar’s mind, who proceeded with the idea within just a day or two. After completing this song, he approached Harbhajan Mann who took up this song. He even tried recording the song two or three times but couldn’t somehow hit the right chord.
So after wandering here and there for a few days the song somehow reached legend Gurdas Maan who took his time to create a charming rendition. Thus, after a lot of soul storming, Maan Sahab finally came up with the full-fledged song in association with Amar Haldipur which soon become an anthem of every Punjabi’s aspirations and pride.
